Congratulations to Nicholas Cole, DoD SMART Scholarship recipient!

April 17, 2020

Congratulations to Nicholas Cole (BS Electrical Engineering '24), who has been selected for the SMART Scholarship for Service Program!

Nicholas Cole envisions himself working in the defense sector designing military weaponry after college. In his free time, he takes part in engineering clubs such as the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) student sections at Drexel. Joining these clubs has inspired him to pursue this scholarship.

Nicholas will be working with the 57th Intelligence Squadron at the Lackland Air Force Base outside of San Antonio Texas. Their main mission is to provide and sustain Electronic Warfare Systems and Radar Technologies for the United States Department of Defense and its allies as well. He is ecstatic and appreciative of receiving this award, and could not have done it without the many people who pushed him to help him succeed.

The DoD Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program has been established by the Department of Defense (DoD) to support undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Awardees are assigned to a DoD laboratory where they will serve as a summer intern and complete a period of post-graduation employment service as a DoD civilian. In addition, SMART Scholars are provided coverage of full tuition and education related educational expenses, a yearly stipend, and other financial and professional development benefits.
